One Ocean Summit - 7 April 2025

Monday 7 April 2025
10:00 – 15:00 (CET)
Haakon's Hall
Bergen, Norway

Hosted by the City of Bergen and Vestland County Council.

The One Ocean Summit 2025 will convene under the theme Sea Level Rise and Coastal Resilience for a Sustainable Future, addressing a major global challenge. This summit will bring together national and international stakeholders to tackle the issues of rising sea levels and the need for stronger coastal resilience.

Climate change is increasingly threatening coastal cities and communities, with rising sea levels becoming more severe worldwide. Many people live in low-lying coastal areas, making them particularly vulnerable and at the forefront of climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has confirmed that sea level rise will significantly impact economic activity, critical infrastructure, and living conditions in the near future.

The ocean plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change. Therefore, urgent action for the world’s oceans is needed to reduce environmental and societal impacts. The One Ocean Summit aims to share knowledge and best practices for addressing the challenges of rising ocean levels. International cooperation and partnerships for sustainable adaptation and climate-resilient ocean management are essential. The summit supports a united approach towards a sustainable future for our ocean and coasts.

Some of the topics that will be addressed include: coastal futures and global solutions, social justice and the well-being of coastal communities, as well as sustainable ocean adaptation and climate-resilient ocean management.

The One Ocean Summit will also highlight the role of youth through the One Ocean Youth Panel, which will contribute insights and solutions to ocean-related challenges, reinforcing our collective commitment to sustainable development.

The One Ocean Summit will be attended by high-level participants and representatives from research, industry, civil society, and youth.
