06 April - The Poisoned Whale

Date: 06 April
Time: 11.00–17.00 CET
Location: Forhandlingsrommet, The University Museum in Bergen
Organiser: The University Museum in Bergen

In 2021, a three-year-old killer whale named Elida washed ashore in Sognefjord. She was found to be full of chemical pollutants, some banned for over 40 years! Tests showed that Elida had more than ten times the harmful amount of pollutants in her body. She has been dubbed “The Poisoned Whale.”

During One Ocean Week, you can learn about Elida’s story at the exhibit “The Poisoned Whale.” The exhibit is a collaboration between the Marma-Detox Project at the University of Bergen, The University Museum of Bergen and Norwegian Orca Survey.  Here, you can see a 3D model of Elida, watch a short movie about her, and through activities explore how chemical pollutants affect us all. Welcome!
