In Paracas, we find Peru's first protected marine area. Daniel Caceres Bartra and his team are actively working to protect more. This area, which was first protected in 1976, is now threatened by industrial fishermen seeking access. This is an issue affecting several marine reserves in the country.
Fewest protected marine areas in the world
According to Bartra, Peru is one of the countries with the fewest protected areas in the world, and he expresses great concern over the consequences of this. That is why he and his team are fighting to establish more protection in the tropical seas of northern Peru. He believes that the One Ocean Youth Panel is an important forum to bring international attention to the cause.
Bartra encourages others to get involved and learn more about the challenges his team faces in the fight to protect Peru’s marine ecosystems.
On April 8 at 3:00 PM, Bartra and the One Ocean Youth Panel invites you to a seminar at “Havnerommet”, where they will discuss this, along with other relevant issues.
