Bergen Port is an important player in shipping and trade, with a vision to become a future-oriented, international environmental port. With 23,300 ship calls annually, the port is one of Norway’s busiest and a central part of the city’s infrastructure. To meet future challenges, the port is strongly focused on sustainable solutions that can reduce environmental impact while maintaining high operational efficiency.
As an environmental port, our goal is to implement green solutions that contribute to both local and global sustainability. An important initiative is our strict cruise policy, which has led to more eco-friendly ships choosing to visit Bergen. We have introduced strict requirements to reduce emissions and encourage shipping companies to use alternative energy sources to reduce their carbon footprint.
Bergen Port has also launched several initiatives to make the port more sustainable on land. Among other things, we have established shore power systems for ships visiting the port, allowing them to connect to the power grid and reduce the use of fossil fuels while docked. This helps reduce emissions in the city and makes the port a more environmentally friendly destination for maritime traffic.
Additionally, we are working to develop the port areas at Dokken into a modern, green, and attractive space for both businesses and the city's residents. We are exploring opportunities to integrate new technologies and sustainable solutions, such as electric transportation and solar energy, to create a future-oriented port area.
With our green initiatives, we are determined to make Bergen Port a role model for how ports can combine growth, efficiency, and environmental considerations in a sustainable manner.
